Fri 20 Aug 2004
This will be a partial report, written in mid-afternoon. The Commonwealth and Under 25 International, Lum for F Class, and Algonquin long range team matches are underway - I'm sneaking off at half time to do this! Tonight there is the Macdonald Stewart Banquet, and I've found from long experience that trying to do a report after that is often not very productive. Hence, I'll probably complete this tomorrow. However, the Grand Aggregate is finished, with Jim Paton, White Rock, BC, overcoming a two point deficit to win by one point over David Luckman, GBRT - 824.102 to 823.112. Jon Underwood, GBRT, was third with 823.103. The Walter M. Stewart Prize for the top under-25 shooter was won by Alan Ferguson, RCAC. The Tess Spencer Trophy for the top lady in the Grand was won by Jane Messer, GBRT, with 817.77. In the F Class, Wolfgang Scholze, BDMP, Germany, maintained his lead to score 964, and win the Crone Trophy. Second was William Hammers, West Bloomfield, MI, 951, and third Dave Rumbold, Ottawa, Ontario, 950. Jim Thompson wins the Farquharson Trophy as the top F(F) shooter with 908. The Gatineau was the concluding shoot in the Grand. The earleir relays had fairly benign conditions, but the wind rose steadily all morning. Winner was Gunter Bohme, BDMP, Germany, with 75.9, from Roger Mullin, Cobourg, Ontario, and Charles Martin, Auburn, WA, both with 75.8. Leo D'Amour, Laval, Quebec, won the F Class with 88, from Wolfgang Scholze, 87, and Dave Rumbold, 86. The Patron's Match at 900 metres was won by Bert Rollins, Fairfax, VA, with 70.3, from Peter Westlake, NCTC Staff, 70.2, and Andy Luckman, GBRT, 69.5. Leo D'Amour won the F Class with 81. The lower scores are an indication of how much more difficult were the conditions later in the morning. Many other aggregates were completed today, with details in the links below. Notably; The Gzowski Long range: Jon Underwood, GBRT (TR) and Wolfgang Scholze (F) The Polar Bear: Jon Underwood (TR) and Wolfgang Scholze (F); Going back to yesterday, we now have some team results: Outlander for visiting teams, 1. GBRT 966.87, 2. USA 965.70, 3. Germany 926.50; Michael Faraday for International Cadet Teams, 1. Canadian Cadets 1225.116, 2. UK Cadets 1218.106; Provincal teams Short Range, 1, ontario 581.61, 2, Quebec 576.55; London Merchants Long range Provincial, 1. Ontario 389.32, 2. Quebec 383.25. There will be much more to report in the morning. The weather forecast is uncertain - in fact this morning's sunshine has given way to a high overcast - and the wind continues to blow! Supplement to the above - written at mid-morning on Saturday. The long range team matches were fired in gusty conditions on Friday afternoon. All these matches had 10 shots on score at 800 and 900 metres. In the Commonwealth, for full international teams of 12 shooters, the GBRT had a solid victory, with 1181.95, over Canada 1168.100, the USA 1161.95, and Germany, 1076.44. The Under 25 Long Range, for teams of 8 shooters, was won by Great Britain, repsented by the Athelings, with 764.60, over Canada 761.49. The Algonquin, for club teams of 4, was won by NCRRA, 387.25, from Mons RC #1, 378.20, Mons RC #2, 373.34, Cedar Springs RC, 369.20, and the Camerons of Manitoba , 367.27. And finally, in the team matches, the Black and Tan Challenge for the Lum Trophy, for F Class teams, was won by USA "F"with 443, over Canada's Old F's, 428. The individual match on Friday afternoon, the Hayhurst, was won by Jacques Dugas, Quebec, Quebec, 150.21, from Kevin Boustead, ACLIM, and Stan Frost, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, both on 148.15.F Class winner was Glen Taylor, Leduc, Alberta, 170, over Heinz Vollenweider, Richmond Hill, Ontario, 169. The Hayhurst was the concluding match in the Cadet Bisley Aggregate, which forms part of the basisi for selection next year's Cadet Bisley Team. The winner was Patricia Livingston, 730.61, from Kevin Boustead, 730.56, and Kayla Clow, 728.42. The MacDonald Stewart Banquet last night was up to all its usual high standards. The meal was very good, and there was a wonderful display of minuature firearms, all fireable, from the David Stewart Musueum. I'm glad I decided not to write the report last night! Once again the weather has confounded the forecasters. Today started a little cloudy, but it is now (11:20 AM) clear, cool and sunny. There is a rising breeze who will make the Finals this afternoon quite a challenge.
