Preliminary Report - Thursday 18th August "Celtic Invasion at Connaught" There's a distinctly Celtic flavour to the entries for the 123rd Canadian Fullbore Rifle Championships, at which shooting gets underway tomorrow.

 Teams from Ireland, Scotland and Wales have come to compete against Canada and the more regular visiting teams from Germany and the USA. They join individuals from Australia, Bermuda, England, Jamaica and New Zealand, along with Canadians from across the country. In addition there are sizeable contingents from the Canadian and British Cadet organisations. In all over 300 (280 in Target Rifle Classes and 21 in F Class) have entered for the Macdonald Stewart Grand Aggregate, which starts on Sunday and concludes on Friday 26th.

 Other major events included: the Governor General's Prize whose Final is fired on Saturday afternoon 27th August; and the Long and Short Range International Team Matches, for the Commonwealth and Canada Trophies respectively, fired on the 26th and 27th.

 Competition gets underway on Friday with the Sierra ISSF 300 metre Championship, the Ottawa Regiment 800 metre match, and the first parts of the Long Range Challenge (900m) and the 223/556 Championship (300m and 800m).

The weather forecast is for scattered showers on both Friday and Saturday, with temperatures in the high 20s, followed by a dryer and cooler spell.
