Mon 19 Aug 2002

The morning was fine, clear and relatively cool. For once, those weather forecasters who predict "a few showers in the afternoon were right. I was quite lucky - it started to rain as I left the firing point after my 600 yards shoot. After a while, the rain died back and I had a dry shoot at 800 metres. Again, and while some people suggested that this was a "power and influence" plot" by the match organisers, we fired, with little argument, the remaining delays of these last two matches!

  1. The Colonel John Brick, 10 at 500 and 600 yards. There is a tie between John Webster, GBRT, and Mitchell Maxberry, Karori RC, New Zealand, with 100v17. Next in line were John Blooomfield, Great Britain, and Emmanuel Gauvin, Quebec QC, Canada, with 100v15. In the F Class, Matthew Paroz, Quinns Rock, Australia, John Brewer, Canton MS, USA, Larry Bathelome, El Paso TX, USA, and Dick Vesy (US F Class Team Captain), Boardman OH, USA, were tied at 199. Tie to be resolved.
  2. The Norman Beckett, 10 at 300 and 800 metres. First place tie was between Ken Westling, Vancouver BC, Canada, and Vladimir Kozicki, Ottawa ON, Canada, with 100v15. In the F Class, Robert Crone, S Boston VA, USA, tied with JJ Conway, San Antonio TX, USA, with perfect scores of 120.
  3. Also fired was the 600 yard Stage of the 223/556 Championship. At the time of writing the scores are not available to me.
  4. So far, the Grand Aggregate has a highest possible score of 300v60. Leading the pack is John Webster GBRT, 300v40; closely behind are Raymond Cross, Midland MI, USA, 299v38 and Emanuel Gauvin, 299.33. In the F Class, F Class Team Captain, Keith Cunningham leads with 355. Wolfgang Scholze, BDMP, Germany, and Andrew Larkin, Australia, with 354 and 353 respectively. Many points and places are yet to be decided.

Tomorrow looks towards fair weather, with increasing heat and disturbance. If I say nothing about the weather the next few days, it must mean that the pundits were right!

Good, 'outside the trailer', BBQ this evening. My apologies for any errors or omissions in the above notes.
