Sat 16 Aug 2003

This was an almost perfect day for shooting as long as you could read the wind! It was warm, but far less humid than yesterday, with a gusting breeze fishtail, with quite large changes to left and right. The middle of the day was most difficult a description of evil from one of the Athelings was quite appropriate! But it was never easy. There was a delay of some 45 minutes in the morning when a previously scheduled parachute drop of 9 minutes on behalf of the cadets turned into a much longer hiatus. This delayed all subsequent shooting by an hour. Such is often life on a military range. In the morning we fired the Gooderham at 15 shots at 500 yards and 10 at 900 metres. In the TR section, Keith Cunningham again emerge as the outright winner with 123.11, leading Gerry Frazer 122.14, and Alain Marion 121.10. In the F Class, there is a tile between Leo DAmour and Harald Poetke, BDMP Germany, at 138. John Brewer was 3rd at 137. The afternoon match was the Army and Navy Veterans, 15 shots at 900 metres. It was probably in the earlier relays of this that the wind conditions were most difficult. Scott Murray, Arnprior, Ontario, won the match with 75.9, from Brian Slink, Baldwinsville NY, USA, 74.8, and Jeff Jenkins, Blandfield NS, 74.7. John Brewer won the F Class with 88, from John Tetlow 86. The Long Range Challenge was completed this afternoon, in the height of the most tricky wind conditions. TR shooters fired 15 rounds four times over two days, while F Class fired 20. The preliminary results show Terry Glenn winning the TR event, with 284.22, from Linda Miller, 282,17, and Ken Westliing, 281.13. The F Class winner is John Brewer, 454, from Norm Barber, 451, and Robert Bock 427. And, finally for today, the current standings in the 223/556 Championship show Ric Melling leading the TR Class with 287.19, just ahead of Leo Cebula 286.20. In the F Class, Jim Thompson on 334 leads Paul Reibin 329. There are two ranges, 600 yards and 900 metres yet to fire. In the evening, we have enjoyed the annual Meet and Greet and BBQ. There was an excellent turn out on a fine, warm evening. According ot the forecasters, the weather looks pretty good until at least Tuesday. Tomorrow, we fire the Black Powder International Team Match, the Tilton, last of the warm-ups, the 600 yard stage of the 233/556 and the Macdougall which opens the Macdonald Stewart Grand Aggregate. In the evening are the DCRA semi-annual Members and Council Meetings.
