Report for Sunday 17th August Last night was for the BBQ and partying tonight was for the Semi-Annual Members, sometimes known as the kickers meeting, and Council Meetings. To a warm evening was added a lot of hot air, joining the fumes and noise of a generator just outside the meeting place. Im not sure that a great deal was achieved. A a footnote to last night for lovers of plonk, the house red from Connaught this year comes from the Pelee Island Winery, which often produces quite good stuff. Some concentrated research indicated that a 1:2 mix of the Merlot with the Cabernet Sauvignon made the latter much more palatable. Unfortunately there was only one bottle of Merlot. The Wolf Blass sampled this evening prior to the meeting was very much better! Today was another almost perfect day for shooting warm, but not too humid, and even the wind was less aggressive than yesterday. The penultimate range of the 223/556 Championship was held at 600 yards. In the TR Class, Leo Cebula leads with 361, from Ric Melling 359 and Jeff Lambe 352. Jim Thompson 420 holds a narrow lead over Paul Reibin 416 in the F Class. The final 900 metre stage takes place on Monday. In the morning, we fired the Tilton at 300 metres and 600 yards. Outright TR winner was Jim Paton, Whiterock, BC, with 100.17, from Carl Ganter, Lacombe, Alberta. 100.12, and Nicole Rossignol, Ottawa, Ontario, 100.6. In the F Class, there is a tie between John Brewer, Dave Rumbold and Wolfgang Scholze at 117. Your faithful scribe had 116 in 4th place. The Tilton completed the Champlain Aggregate, consisting of the warm-up matches. Keith Cunningham won this with 370.39, from Gerry Frazer 368.40 and Scott Murray 366.38. John Brewer won the F Class with 431, from Wolfgang Scholze 424 and John Tetlow, Glenburnie, Ontario, 423. In the afternoon, we fired the Macdougall at 300 metres and 500 yards. This marks the start of the Macdonald Stewart Grand Aggregate, so the stress level rises a notch or two. Peter Church, Michigan USA, won the match with 100.16, from Gordon Paetkau, Lockport, Manitoba, 100.11, and William Tabor, Colorado USA, 100.10. There is again a tie in the F Class, between Leo DAmour, Laval, Quebec, and Dave Rumbold, with 118. John Brewer and Colin Brown, Ancaster, Ontario, both had 116. The scribe had 115 for 5th place. We now have scores from Fridays Sierra Canadian 300 metre ISSF Championship. Keith Cunningham won the TR/ISSF Class with 592, from Terry Glen at 587 and Nelson Simons, Bermuda, 570. F Class winner was John Ingoldsby with 583, from Emil Praslick 581. We also have a series of scores from the Black Powder Matches, which finished this morning. Grand Aggregate winners in the two classes were Chris Jones and Frank Monikowski. Tomorrow, the forecast is for continuing good weather, with, we trust, no power cuts. Two more Grand Aggregate Matches will be fired, and the last range of the 223/556.
