Report for Monday 18th August This almost becoming monotonous! Another almost perfect day for shooting a bit warmer than yesterday, but not too humid, and with a light, but often fickle and fish-tailing, breeze. It is a great shame that all those who, for many reasons decided not to come to Connaught this year, are missing such a fine period of weather, ideal for shooting. First prize for the most unusual error of the day goes to a very senior member of the DCRA who, arriving on the firing point with 12 carefully loaded rounds, found that he had forgotten to put in any primers! He rushed a relative term for a senior person- back to his car, found more ammo and came back to score 50.7! The final range of the 223/556 Championship was fired at 900 metres. Conditions were not all that easy in the gathering gloom of the evening. In the TR Class, Ric Melling gained first place with 429.29, just ahead of Leo Cebula 428.27 and Jeff Lambe 425.25. Jim Thompson held off the challenge from Paul Reibin to win the F Class 498 to 488. Two major matches were fired today. The Norman Beckett, at 300 and 800 metres, has a very interesting tie for first place between Alain Marion and Scott Marion with 100.15; Pat Vamplew and Roger Romses were next with 100.13. In the F Class, Willi Saparautzki, BDMP, Germany, had a perfect 120, beating out three scores of 119 from Wolfgang Scholze, John Brewer and Robert Koch, who is also of the BDMP. The Colonel John Brick Match, at 500 and 600 yards, also has a tie, between A.N.R. Walker, of the British Cadet Rifle Team (the Athelings), and Guenter Boehme, BDMP, Germany, at 100.15. R.I. Nelosn of the Athelings was third with 100.14. There is a tie in the F Class with two scores of 118, Willi Saparautzki and Wolfgang Scholze, both of the BDMP. Next scores were Harald Poetker, BDMP, and John Brewer, with 117. We have now fired six ranges, 300 points (TR) and 360 (F), of the Grand Aggregate. A close race is shaping up in both classes. Scott Murray has 300.34 to lead the TR Classes, from Pat Vamplew 299.32, Keith Cunningham 299.32, Alain Marion 298.37, and William Tabor 298.31. In F Class, John Brewer has 352, Wolfgang Scholze 351 and Robert Koch 350. Tie shoots are being held each day to resolve the undecided matches. Prizes lists are updated and may be viewed in the detailed results section of this site. The forecast for tomorrow is good, but it will be a bit warmer and more humid. We will fire the Letson, first part of the qualifying for the Governor Generals, the dreaded Alexander of Tunis at 900 metres, and the Coaches Match.
