Tue 19 Aug 2003

Report for Tuesday 19th August This has been a most enjoyable day - at the risk of sounding monotonous yet again, this was another almost perfect day for shooting. The wind was very light for most of the morning, but perked up considerably in advance of the Alexander in the afternoon. For several relays of the latter, there were gusts of wind and lulls, requiring some 3 to 4 minutes of extra allowance. Two major matches were fired today. There was the Letson, 7 shots at each of 300m, 500 and 600y. the classic first stage. Outright winner was Jim Paton with 105.17, from Adam Samansky, Massachusetts, USA, 105.14, Serge Bissonnette, Orleans, Ontario, 105.13. In the F Class, John Brewer had 125, Wolfgang Scholze and Dave Rumbold 124. This is the first part of the qualifying aggregate for Saturdays Governor Generals Final. And then there was the Alexander of Tunis at 900 metres, which often has served as the aggregate maker/breaker. Conditions today were not impossibly difficult a very light wind in the morning turned into a fairly changeable and modestly powerful breeze in the afternoon. Depending on your relay, it was bearable or diabolical. The TR winner, to universal pleasure, was Patricia Dahlstrom, Victoria, BC, with 50.6. She beat Des Vamplew 50.2, J.C.T. Kent, Athelings, and J-C Theriault, Quebec, both on 49.7. John Brewer had 57 to win the F Class, from BDMP members, Harald Poetker, Hartmut Kruger, Adrian de Jong and Wolfgang Scholze, along with Dave Rumbold, all on 54. Today saw the conclusion of the Klondike halfway Aggregate. 455 points have now been expended in the Grand, 546 in F Class. Current leaders are Pat Vamplew 452.45, Alain Marion 450.52 and Keith Cunningham 450.47. In F Class, John Brewer has 534, Wolfgang Scholze 529, and Dave Rumbold 526. In the Farkey F Class, I have 510, John Tetlow 509 and Colin Brown 508 pretty close! If any of the above is incomprehensible gibberish, it is because we had a good dinner, BBQ steaks, fine red wine, cheese and port, at my trailer this evening. Both I and the Executive Vice President have dozed a little in the past hour while I struggled to write this report. Forgive me for any gross errors. The weather forecast remains pretty good fine and hot tomorrow, slight chance of showers late in the day or on Thursday, and then cooler for the rest of the week. For anyone reading this, you can still come to Connaught and enter several matches from Thursday afternoon onward!
