Report for Saturday 23rd August In what must best be described as the most difficult conditions in recent memory, Alain Marion won his 5th Governor Generals Prize in convincing fashion this afternoon. Alain finished with 282.27, outscoring Gerry Frazer 277.21, Pat Vamplew 276.26 and Peter Church 276.21. A very brisk wind from the northwest changed rapidly in both direction and strength. Scores out of 75 were much more common in the 50s than in the 70s. Alain commented to me after the shoot that he had used from to 12 left; others said they used more left and/or that the wind was definitely right from time to time. All in all, it was most challenging afternoon. This is Alain's 5th Governor's, to add to his 10th Grand won yesterday and his 11th Canadian TR Championship. And so it was a real challenge all day! For some reason, I do not yet have detailed results of the Canada Match (won by Canada), the Under 25 Short Range (won by the BCRT Athelings), the Lansdowne (won by Cedar Springs RC) and the S.J. Perry (won in TR by Thomas Schroeder and in F Class by Leo DAmour). All day, the wind was blowing briskly, with frequent gusts and changes of angle. I know of my own griveous problems in the Perry and the F Class Final, and I'm sure I was not alone. The F Class Final was won by Leo D'Amour with 334, from Dave Rumbold 331, John Brewer and Wolfgang Scholze both with 328. This shooting marked the end of the 121st Canadian Championships. Many other aggregates were decided, with the results in the links below. The Prize Giving was held in the late afternoon, with Major-General Tom de Faye, president of the DCRA, presiding. Guest of honour was Mr. Daniel Glenney fomr the Canaidan War Museum in Ottawa. He expressed great interest in the array of prizes and other artifacts held by the DCRA. The local M.P. who was due to show up, Mr. David Pratt, did not. Tonight it is very late and Im very tired. Hopefully, by the morning, I'll have refreshed myself! Ill write a further summary report tomorrow when, with luck, all missing results will be in. Many may show on the web site since results are often automatically updated.
