Sun 15 Aug 2004

This was a full day, with generally excellent weather. The "40% chance of afternoon thunderstorms" went elsewhere, and we were blessed with a moderate mix of sun and cloud, along with a light, rather fickle wind.

In rough order of events, the penultimate range of the 223/556 Championship was fired at 600 yards. As a result, there are four competitors who stand a very good chance of success at the final 900 metre range tomorrow: Steve Urban, Fort Worth, Texas, 368.33; Clint Dahlstrom, Victoria, BC, 367.29; Stan Frsot, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, 366.32; and Leo Cebula, Northville, MI, 365.35. In any sort of conditions tomorrow, the prize is 'up for grabs'! In the F(F) Class, Jim Thompson, Whitevale, Ontario, has a reasonably comfortable lead. In F-speak scoring, which counts the vee-bull as 6, he has 419, to be compared with Steve's 401.

In the main part of the morning, we fired the Tilton, the last of the warm-up matches, at 300 metres and 600 yards. Toby Raincock, GBRT, is the outright winner with 100.16, from David Calvert, GBRT, and Ken Westling, Vancouver, BC, both on 100.15. There were 28 scores of 100. In the F Class, world champion, Wolfgang Scholze, BDMP, Germany, took the prize from Dave Rumbold, Ottawa, Ontario, 117, and Colin Brown, Ancaster, Ontario, 115.

The Tilton was the last event in the Champlain Aggregate - which includes all the warm-up matches. David Brantner, Keyser, WV, lead the pack, with 370.34, from Jon underwood, GBRT, 368.40, and Peter Church, Dearborn, Michigan, 367.36. Top F Class was Dave Rumbold, 432, from Wolfgang Scholze, 425, and Leo D'Amour, Laval, Quebec, 423.

In the afternoon, The Macdougall was the first of the matches counting in the Macdonald Stewart Grand Aggregate. David Calvert, GBRT, won the match with 100.17, from Peter Church, 100.16, and James Paton, White Rock, BC, 100.15. There were 24 scores of 100. In the F Class, Wolfgang Scholze has 119, John Igoldsby, Caledon East, Ontario, 117, and Dave Rumbold, 116.

Concurrent with the Macdougall is the Steinhardt Provincial Team Match, won by British Columbia with 585.63, from Quebec, 585.60. In this match, at least half the team members must be cadets or juniors firing in the greenshot class.

I hope to have results from Friday's ISSF and from the three day Black Powder matches in the near future.

No social events of note today - one can certainly not count the Semi-Annual Members and Council Meetings as 'social'! In neither were there any significant items of important business.

Tomorrow: forecast is for sunny and relatively cool weather; two more Grand Aggregate Matches will be fired, as well as the final 900 metre range of the 223/556 Championship.

Question to those who are reading this (if any one): what can we do to encourage you to attend the CFRC?

Good night!
