Jim Paton, White Rocks, BC, won the Macdonald Stewart Grand Aggregate for the second year in a row, adding to his recent triumph in the Queen's Prize at Bisley. Taking a two point lead into the final 900 metre shoot, the Gatineau Match, Jim scored 74 and with 823.84 (HPS 830) ended up five points ahead of his nearest rivals, Emil Praslick III, Columbus, GA, 818.94, and Raymond Gross, Midland, MI, 818.85.
He wins the Macdonald Lassie and a gold maple leaf coin. The Walter M. Stewart Memorial Prize goes to Audrey Gagne, RCAC Staff, with 810.66. Audrey was also the top lady in the Grand winning the Tess Spencer Trophy. In the F Class, Jim Murphy, Owensbord, KY, won the Crone Trophy with a score of 975 (HPS 996), with Dave Rumbold, Ottawa, ON, and John Brewer, Canton, MS, on 967. John Tetlow, Kingston, ON, won the Farquharson Trophy fro the top F(F) Class shooter in the Grand, scoring 906.
Jim was honoured in the traditional way at the Macdonald Stewart Dinner, held at the Chateau Laurier. It was, as always, a very fine evening, though we were all saddened that Mrs. Liliane Stwart was not able to attend due to ill health. But in her indomitable fashion, she spoke on the phone through the loud speaker system to the assembled company.
The Macdonald Stewart Museum again provided a superb display of artefacts and antique firearms.
