Our fine spell of weather continues. Today, there was hardly a cloud in the sky all day, it was warm and there was a modest breeze, which was quite "interesting" at times. And the forecast is the same for tomorrow, but perhaps even warmer.
In the morning, the last two ranges of the Gibson were fired at 300 metres and 600 yards, to be added to yesterday's 800 metres. Ken Westling won the match with 149.15, with Alex Langley, from the Channel Islands, and Jim Paton second and third with 148.18; F Class, Marius de Champlain 174, a point ahead of Dave Rumbold.
The completion of the Gibson also brought to a close several aggregates involving the short and mid-ranges. Here is a summary of some of them.
The Short Range (300m only): Laurie Hearn 235.33, Ray Smeltzer 235.32, Paul Tremblay 235.31, Des Vamplew 235.28; F Class Marius de Champlain 279 (only three shots outside the vee), Matthew Wolf and Dave Rumbold 277.
The Maple Leaf (500 and 600y): Shannon Carleton 368.45, Pat Vamplew and Paul Tremblay 367.42, Roger Romses 367.36; F Class Marius de Champlain 434, Dave Rumbold 428.
The All Comers (300m, 500 and 600y: Paul Tremblay 602.73, Pat Vamplew 601.71, Shannon Carlton and Des Vamplew 601.68; F Class Marius de Champlain 713, Dave Rumbold 705.
Two interprovincial team matches were fired in the afternoon - the Provincial at 600y and the London Merchants at 900m. Ontario won both of these, the former with a fine score of 596.64 (ex 600), 9 points ahead of Quebec. In the london Merchants, things were much closer with Ontario on 581.50 beating the Atlantic Provinces by just three vee-bulls.
For the cadets, the big match of the meeting is the Michael Faraday, fired with teams of 12 at 300, 500 and 600 yards. The British Cadets, the Athelings scored an excellent 1220.102 to beat the RCAC Canadian Cadets by 11 points.
Many other concurrent team matches and less important individual events may be accessed on the links below.
In the Grand Aggregate, with only 75 points now remaining, Roger Romses on 746.77 has a strong lead over Emil Praslick II 741.83 and Scott Murray 741.75. Marius de Champlain on 683 also has a commanding lead of 14 points over Dave Rumbold.
The Commonwealth Games Trial is now reaching its most interesting phase, with just the long ranges of the CFRC to go, plus the final day's shoot on Sunday. Currently in the medal positions are Pat Vamplew 1416.148, Jim Paton 1416.140, Des Vamplew 1413.164 and Paul Tremblay 1411.149. There are still 525 points at stake, so it's not over by any means.
No culinary report for today, since dinner got waylaid by a set of keys being locked in a car .... not yet sorted out, but there are two empty bottle of Chateau Bellevue Gabelas as witness to the great efforts made to resolve the problem. The "cofffeee" confrontation now stands at Thompson 9 - Brown 6, with one range to go and one no result.
