Thu 22 Aug 2002

This was a day of mixed fortunes. The weather forecast had said that the morning could be quite bad, with showers and thunderstorms, with clearing in the afternoon. As it turned out, the morning was not too bad, so we completed the Gibson. However, from noon onwards, the rain became heavier and kept on coming. There were many discussions during the afternoon, but in the end, no shooting was possible. The Street and Rideau individual matches and the Provincial, London Merchants, and Outlander team matches, were cancelled. The Faraday will now be fired tomorrow (Friday) alongside the Hayhurst at 300, 500 and 600 yards.

The major match concluded today was the Gibson, 10 shots on score at 300 metres, 600 yards and 800 metres. The winner was John Pugsley, GBRT, with 150v17, from Jacques Dugas, Quebec QC, Canada, 150v11. Given the difficult wind conditions yesterday, and the rain this morning, the scoring was high. In the F Class (HPS 180), Keith Cunningham, Burnt River ON, Canada, had 178. Bob Crone and John Brewer from the USA each had 177.

Just about all the serious shooting from now on is at long range, so that a number of important aggregates were settled today. Fuller details are on the match summaries below.

All Comers Aggregate (ranges 300 - 600): TR Charles Bayne, Wolfville NS, Canada, 602.58; F Class details not yet available.

Short Range Aggregate (300 metres): TR Emmanuel Gauvin, Quebec QC, Canada, 235v32; F Class Cliff Talbot, Fallon NV, USA, 282.

Maple Leaf Aggregate (500 and 600 yards): TR David Luckman, GBRT, 370.52; 2nd Charles Bayne, 370.365.

McColloch Trophy (shooters 65 or above): TR Charles Bayne NS, 602.58; F Class Wolfgang Scholze, BDMP, Germany.

In the Grand Aggregate, as well as in the Bisley Aggregate, we have a new leader. Alain Marion, Hull QC, leads Charles Bayne, 745.93 to 745.69.

That's all for this evening. There is a host of further 'lesser' aggregates, details of which  will appear on this site as quickly as possible.
