Fri 23 Aug 2002
Alain Marion, Hull QC, Canada, today won the Macdonald Stewart Grand Aggregate for the ninth (yes, the 9th) time! It's very difficult for me to add to any words to embellish that fact, except to offer warmest congratulations to Alain. He scored 818v99, finishing ahead of Ray Gross, Midland MI, USA, 817v83, and Scott Murray, Arnprior ON, Canada, 817v80.
The last shoot in the Grand was the Gatineau, 15 shots at 900 metres, fired in the morning. There was a slight, fairly constant, easterly breeze for this. John Webster, GBRT, won the match with 75v9, from Adam Brown, GB Under 25 Team, 75v7, and Nicholas McRae, Canadian Cadets, 75v6. Top F Class was Larry Barthelome, El Paso Texas, USA, with a perfect 90. William Hallam, Australia, had 89, with Jan Rousseau, South Africa, and Peter Jackson, Scotland, on 88.
88 TR shooters and 16 F Class shooters qualified for the Patron's, 15 shots at 900 metres. There are ties in both the TR and F Classes. In the former, Gordon Paetkau, Lockport MB, Canada, and Dan Simpson, New Hampshire USA, both having 75v6 must shoot off. Similarly, in the F Class, Keith Cunningham, Burnt River ON, Canada, and Philip Blakely, Esperance, Australia, have tied with 89/90. Results tomorrow.
The firing of these two matches concludes a lot of aggregates, for both teams and individuals. I will not comment on all of them here. All results, when available, will be found by using the links in the DCRA Results pages.

The Commonwealth Long Range Team Match was fired this afternoon. I do not, at this time, have the details of scores. However, it was said to me tonight, that Great Britain won with a record score, with Canada second. Following the rain on Thursday, the Michael Faraday was re-scheduled for Friday afternoon. Again, I do not have the scores, but the Royal Canadian Army Cadets won the match over the Great Britain Cadets (the Athelings).
We have a full day tomorrow, looking forward to the Final of the Governor General's Prize in the afternoon but having an excellent day's shooting. Forecast is for some cloud and thunderstorms, later in the day. Nothing serious THEY say - WE shall see.
All other news tomorrow. We had the usual excellent dinner at the Chateau Laurier hosted by Mrs. Stewart and the Foundation.
