Sat 24 Aug 2002
The major individual event of the 120th Canadian Fullbore Rifle Championships, Her Excellency the Governor General's Prize, was won by Alain Marion of Hull, Quebec. This is the fourth time that Alain has been carried off the range in the ceremonial chair. He achieved his success after a three-way tie shoot with Jon Cload and Parag Patel of the GBRT, each having finished with 297v31. Alain thus scores a notable double, adding the Governor General's to the Grand Aggregate. He also won, for an unprecedented 10th time, the Canadian Fullbore Championship and, hence, the Bisley Aggregate. Add to all that the Canadian Masters Championship blazer and the Canadian Open TR Championship, and there is no doubt that Alain has had quite a week in the face of very strong competition.
The other major event today was the Canada Match for international teams at 300, 500 and 600 yards. Great Britain put together a record score of 1197v142, eclipsing the previous mark by one point. 1197 is now the record score for the short range international on both sides of the Atlantic, in the Kolapore and the Canada Match.
Also in the morning we fired the S.J. Perry, 15 rounds at 700, 800 and 900 metres. With ranks considerably swelled by F Class shooters, getting some practice for next week, there was a full entry. The TR winner was Des Vamplew, Scarborough ON, Canada, 223v22. Peter Jackson, Scotland, won the F Class with 264 (ex 270).
There were many other aggregates and awards settled today. Details may be found from our links, once the data has reached our server.
Tomorrow is the 1st America Match at 300, 600 yards and 800, 900 metres. The forecast is good, so THEY say.
