Fri 18 Aug 2006

This was a fine, warm day, with quite a tricky wind especially in the early and mid afternoon. Increasing humidity spells a change in the weather, the forecast being less benign this evening than at this time yesterday. Showers are now on the cards for the next two or three days.

Four events were fired today. In the Sierra 300 metre Canadian Championship, Paul Tremblay, Quebec, won the TR/ISSF Class with 590/600, while Heinz Vollenweider, Richmond Hill, Ontario, won the F Class with 598. There was only a small entry this year, perhaps due to other competing matches.

Then there was the Canadian 223/556 Championship, over 5 ranges (300, 500 and 600 yards, 800 and 900 metres) with 15 shots at each. Stan Frost, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, won the TR Class with 365.30/375. Stan was three points ahead of Gary Bowman, Mississauga, Ontario. In the F Class, the winner was Jon Cowee, Cheyenne, Wyoming, with 419/450.

The Long Range Challenge, 15 at 900 metres fired three times, was won by Linda Miller, Burnt River, Ontario, with 223.23/225. A point behind was Ken Westling, Vancouver, BC. Winner of the F Class was Larry Bartholome, El Paso, Texas, at 266/270 [that just 4 shots outside the vee-bull of the 45 fired!], from Norm Barber, Inglwood, Ontario, 261.

And finally, the Ottawa Regiment, first of the matches in the Champlain "warm-up" Aggregate, was fired at 800 metres. There is a tie for 1st place between Ed Compton of the GBRT and J.J. Jackson, Haslet, Texas, both with 75.10. In all there were 15 scores of 75. Larry Bartholome continue his winning ways in the F Class with a perfect 90, from Jim Murphy, Owensboro, Kentucky and John Carmichael, GB, both on 88.

Full results lists of today's matches are on this web site. I've not been able to find any good gossip or scandal today, but I'm working on it.

Tomorrow has two matches, the Gooderham at 500 yards and 900 metres, and the Army and Navy Veterans at 600 yards and 900 metres. These will be followed by the competitors' Meet and Greet and BBQ.
