The forecast showers did not fall at Connaught, showing the uncertainty associated with "30% POP", but it was a fairly humid and sultry day. Winds were light, with not too much variation, resulting a high scores.
Two matches were fired, the Gooderham, 500 yards and 900 metres, in the morning, and the Army & Navy Veterans, 600 yards and 900 metres, in the afternoon. Members of the Great Britain Team won both these events.
Danny Coleman won the Gooderham with 100.17, just ahead of Andrew Sims, NSW, Australia, on 100.16. In all there were 21 double possibles, scores of 100, a reflection of the relatively benign conditions. In F Class, Sam Munderich, Welland, Ontario, had 118/120, with Jim Murphy, Owensboro, Kentucky, and John Carmichael, GB, following with 117.
And in the Army & Navy, David Calvert was the winner with 100.17, from David luckman, also of the GBRT, on 100.15. There were 26 double possibles. Jim Murphy took the F Class with a perfect 120, with Larry Bartholome, El Paso, Texas, John Brewer, Canton, Mississipi, and Vanessa Warner, Keene, New Hampshire, all on 119.
Tonight was the annual Meet & Greet Party and BBQ, held in the new Connaught eating emporium. While your scribe does nt yet have a photo to rival that of T de L, he can assure you that the red wine was drinkable, unlike that at the Red Pine in Alliston a couple of weeks ago. Even the serving staff at the Red Pine had advised that their red, of the only variety available, was undrinkable, and they were quite right. Tonight's Pelee Island Baco Noir was not too bad and should not produce too much af a sore head in the morning.
Tomorrow morning inlcudes the Tilton, the last of the warm-up matches, and then the Grand Aggregate gets underway in the afternoon with the Macdougall. The forecast is again for showers, with a rather more problematic "80% POP", but it should be a bit cooler than today.
I must congratulate Peter Vaughan and the Stats Staff for the speed with which they are processing and posting scores. Thanks to the marvels of computer technology, the web site is automatically updated when a list is produced. This means that results are availabe well before your scribe has settled down to write his report, usually after an evening of debauchery
