Thu 24 Aug 2006

There's quite a lot of news to report today, so I shall have to be selective. In any case, not all the late afternoon results are to hand, so I will catch up on these tomorrow.

The two short ranges, 300m and 600y, of the Gibson were fired this morning. There was very little wind at all, so scores were high. For some reason, I do not have the final list of scores in the Gibson, nor is it on the web site. This will be corrected in the morning.

However, with the Gibson, the short range matches as part of the Grand Aggregate are now over. Only the Gatineau, 15 shots at 900m, now remains to be fired tomorrow morning. Three members of the GBRT lead the way, David Luckman 753.103, Jane Messer 751.94, and Ross McQuillan 750.95. Norm Anderson, Columbus, Georgia, and Alain Marion, Hull, Quebec, are also lurking with 750.90 and 750.84, respectively. In the F Class, Jim Murphy leads with 889, from Larry Bartholome 884, and Des Parr 879.

Three of the more major aggregates were also completed with the Gibson scores.

The All Comers, including ranges from 300m to 600y, was won by Norm Anderson with 605.79, just ahead of Jim Paton 605.77. Jim Murphy won the F Class with 717, from Vanessa Warner 715 and Larry Bartholome 710.

The Short Range Aggregate, scores at 300m only, was won by Jon Underwood with 235.40/235.47, just 7 shots outside the vee. There were in all 19 scores of 235. John Brewer won the F Class with 281, with only one shot outside the vee.

The Maple Leaf Aggregate, scores at 500 and 600y, was won by Jim Paton with 370.44/370/74, from Norm Anderson 370.42. Jim Murphy won the F Class with 437/444.

There are many other concurrent team matches finished today, too numerous to mention individually. The scores will show on the web site.

The afternoon was dedicated to team matches and the the Street individual match. The latter was won by Ron Michon, Schenectady, New York, with 223.22, F Class by Wolfgang Scholze, Germany, with 263/270.

The Provincial 600 yard team match was won by Ontario with the fine score of 596/600 (team of 8 shooters). I do not have the details of scores from the London Merchants (Provincial Long Range) or Outlander (visiting teams) or Rideau (small team and F Class teams).

The coveted Des Burke TR Award was won by Jim Paton; Nawfal Jmyi, Canadian Cadets, won the Brewers Association award for newcomers; Pete Church the McCulloch Trophy for 'old timers'; Brenda Green and Andrew Sims, the Senior-Junior Pairs; and Greg Perron, Canadian Cadets the Cadet/Junior Short Range Aggregate.

Tomorrow looks to be reasonably fine, with a few showers forecast. Saturday may be more of a problem, but we can hope that the weather gurus are wrong as they so often are.
