Sat 18 Aug 2007
Ive just got home from the Meet & Greet Reception and BBQ. Actually the
festivities were still raging when I left, but it was time to get my report done
before an early start tomorrow. Big crowd at the party, lots of food, and I
enjoyed most of a bottle of Richland Shiraz from Australia.
Today was dry, cool but mostly sunny with variable cloud. The big winds of
yesterday had abated, but there was still a brisk breeze for around 11 oclock,
varying in angle and strength. Our competitors from the West Indies are
anxiously watching the progress of Hurricane Dean, a rather nasty storm, and
its possible we may get some residual effects next week. But for the next few
days, the cool weather is expected to continue, with a chance of a few showers.
Today saw the conclusion of the Black Powder programme (results soon), the last
of the warm-up matches, the Tilton, and the start of the Macdonald Stewart Grand
Aggregate, the Macdougall. In the more benign conditions and shorter range
shooting, scores were higher than yesterday. Tie shoots will be required to
settle both of todays matches.
The Tilton (300m and 600y): 4-way tie between Gerard de Costa, Litchfield, NH,
USA; Paul Charlton, Ireland; Emil Praslick III, Columbus, GA, USA; Ronald
Whalen, Australia all on 100.14. There were 17 scores of 100 (double possibles)
in all. F class was also tied between Jack McCann, Dorsey, IL, USA and Dale
Rathwell, Arundel, QC, at 116/120. The Tilton also concluded the Champlain
Aggregate won by David Calvert, GBRT in TR. 369.50, and by Wolfgang Scholze,
Germany, 426 in F Class.
The Macdougall (300m and 500y), which has the DCRAs oldest trophy, in
competition since 1868, also has a tie with scores of 100.13: Toby Raincock,
GBRT; Greg Warren, Australia; and Emil Praslick III. The F Class winner was
Marius de Champlain, Quebec, with 117/120. There were 16 double possibles in the
TR classes.
The Grand continues tomorrow with the Beckett (300 and 800m) and Brick (500 and
600y) Matches.
