The 125th Canadian Championships, Day 4, Sun 19 Aug 2007.. It was quite cool in the morning, mostly sunny all day, no rain and a more fickle wind later on, which all made for a good days shooting.

The wind in the afternoon became quite tricky, with shifts of strength and direction, including a number of complete switches. My spread, FWIW, at 800m was 5L to 6R.

The two matches fired were the Norman Beckett (300 and 800m) and the John Brick (500 and 600y). The Beckett was won outright by Peter Holden, GBRT, with 100.16, one vee-bull ahead of Sherri Hurd, USA Young Eagles, and Gary Bowman, Mississauga, Ont. Leo DAmour, Laval, Que., won the F Class with 118/120, two points ahead of Emil Praslick Sr, Brewster, NY.

Five competitors are tied with 100.15 in the Brick: Keith Cunningham, Burnt River, Ont.; Darren Enslin, Australia; Andy Luckman, GBRT; Peter Seebohm, GB Under 25 Team; Ronald Whalen, Australia. They will tie shoot for the award. Marius de Champlain, Quebec, won the F Class with 119, two points ahead of Wolfgang Scholze, Germany and Dave Rumbold, Ottawa, Ont. Todays aggregate, the Dick Hampton, was won by Peter Holden, 200.28, with five other scores of 200. Leo DAmour topped the F class with 233/240.

There are now 300 points down in the Macdonald Stewart Grand Aggregate. Leading the pack is John Pugsley, UK, with the only full 300, and 31 vees. Keith Cunningham and Toby Raincock, GBRT, have 299.39 and 299.37 respectively. There are five scores of 298. Leo DAmour and Marius de Champlain are tied with 347/360 in F Class. Theres a long way to go yet.

Lastly, we now have results from the Sierra ISSF 300 metre Championship fired last week. David Crandall, Idaho Falls, ID, USA, own the TR/ISSF section with 592/600. Paul Tremblay, Quebec, was top Canadian with 590. Marius de Champlain had a perfect 600 to win the F Class by one point from Wolfgang Scholze.

The weather forecast looks pretty good for the next couple of days. Tomorrow (Monday) we fire the Letson (300m, 500 and 600y), the first part of the Qualifying Stage of the Governor Generals Prize, and the Alexander of Tunis (900m) Matches. The DCRA Semi-Annual Members and Council Meetings were held this evening. Both finish relatively quickly, but they bit sufficiently into the evening so that I can report no gastronomic delights other than a Tim Hortons sandwich, on, rather unusually for them, quite stale bread. A sip or two of 18-year Glenmorangie is helping me to recover and write these notes.
