Canadian Fullbore Rifle Championships, Day 5 - Tue 21 Aug 2007
Only one match was completed today, the Presidents (10 shots at 300m, 500 and 600y). But this event also completed the Qualifying Stage for the Governor Generals Final on Saturday. More on this below.
It was sunny, partly cloudy, all day, a little warmer than of late. Wind conditions were variable, with some relays being, as I heard them described, quite diabolical, while others were much less tricky.
In the Presidents we have a three-way tie at 150.23 between Mark Buchanan, Australia, David Luckman and Jon Underwood, both of GBRT. There were 37 scores of 150 in all. In the F Class, Wolfgang Scholze, Germany, took the honours with 178/180. from Robert Bock, USA, and Dale Rathwell, Canada. 50 shooters are to qualify for the Governor Generals Final. In the provisional list, David Luckman leads the qualifying stage with 255.41, from David Armstrong, GBRT, 255.38 and Mitchell Maxberry, New Zealand, 255.37. The lowest qualifying score is 253.33, with no tie shoot necessary to complete the 50. Wolfgang Scholze and Robert Bock lead the F Class Qualifiers with 302/306. Last score to qualify is Heinz Vollenweider, Richmond Hill, Ont., with 292.
In both the TR and F Class Finals, the Letson score is dropped, but that in the Presidents is carried through. Scores are very close, with everyone on the Final having a very good chance.
And finally, the Grand Aggregate to date, with, in TR, 655 points gone and 175 to go, the leaders are Toby Raincock, GBRT, 653/79, Sherri Hurd, US Young Eagles, 652.78, and John Pugsley, 652.70. F Class is equally close with Robert Bock on 761/786, Marius de Champlain, 759, with Emil Praslick, Sr., and Wolfgang Scholze, both on 749. The first range (800m) of the Gibson was fired this afternoon; the two remaining ranges (300m and 600y) are tomorrow morning. In the afternoon is a miscellany of team matches.
Colin Brown did discover that it is better to remove ones sunshades before shooting the sight picture is brighter and clearer. However, he leads Jim 7-6, with one tied, in the all-important coffee stakes.
