Canadian Championships, Day 6 Wed 22 Aug 2007.
This was a mostly cloudy day with some threat of rain, which did not really happen. There was not much wind during most of the day, but the light fish-tail meant that careful attention had to be paid. There was a little light drizzle later on, perhaps the precursor of unsettled conditions over the next two or three days.
The main individual match that finished ion the morning was the Gibson (300m, 600y and 800m). Two members of the Great Britain Team, David Calvert and David Luckman heads the list with 150.22 and 150.21. Barry Schlam, Australia, also has 150.21, counted back at the loinger range. Two members of the BDMP Germany Team lead the F Class, Rainer Berghus and Wolfgang Scholze, with 179 and 177. The firing of the Gibson means the end of the shorter range shooting (300-600), so that a large number of aggregates have now been completed. All sorts of these are listed on this web site. Perhaps the three most significant are:
The Short Range (300m only), HPS 235.47): Fredrik Coetzee, South Africa, 235.35; F class, HPS 282: Marius de Champlain, Quebec, 279.
The Maple Leaf (500 and 600y), HPS 370.74: Josh Harless, USA Young Eagles 370.49; F Class, HPS 444: Wolfgang Scholze 434.
The All Comers (300m, 500 and 600y), HPS 605: Kent Reeve, Cary, NC, USA, 605.77; F Class, HPS 726: Marius de Champlain 712.
The Des Burke TR Award has been won by Pat Vamplew of Whitby, Ontario.
And now just 15 shots, 75 points remain to be fired in the Grand Aggregate, at 900 metres on Friday morning. The leaders are Toby Raincock, GBRT, 703.86; Sheeri Hurd, USA Young eagles, 702.83; Bruce Scott, Australia, 701.80. In F ClasS: Robert Bock 821; Marius de Champlain 818; Emil Praslick Sr and Wolfgang Scholze 809.
The afternoon was largely occupied with team matches. Results are not yet completely tabulated, but Ill have these for you tomorrow.
The Combined Overseas Teams put on a fine party this evening. Tables generously stocked with food and local libations. It took much self-discipline for me to tip-toe away and to write these notes. Many thanks to all for their hospitality. Im not sure that the mixture of Pimms, Irish cider, red wine and rum will sit all that happily tonight, but it was worth it!
