Canadian Championships Day 8 - Thur 23 Aug 2007
I had hoped to give you a big bundle of team results from Wednesday in todays short report. However, there are still problems with the compilation of scores for some matches, so those results will have to wait until tomorrow. What I have includes:
The Outlander (15 at 600y, 15 at 900m, 8 firers): 1. Australia DOr 1193.156; 2. USA Palma Red 1193.156 (counted out at longer range); 3. GB Palma #2 1192.149; 4. Australia Vert 1192.45. It could hardly have been closer!
The Michael Faraday Cadet Trophy (7 at 300, 500 and 600y, 12 firers): 1. Canada 1238.105; 2. Great Britain 1197.107.
The London Merchants Provincial Teams (15 at 900m, 8 firers): 1. Ontario 588.56; 2. Quebec 580.52. Ontario's score is believed to be a new
record.
One result from the day before yesterday is the Gil Boa Aggregate a new one this year, with a trophy presented by the Boa family in memory of Gil Boa, winner of H.M. The Kings prize at Bisley in 1951. This is the aggregate of Tuesdays scores, the three ranges of the Presidents plus the 800 metres of the Gibson. We have ties in both the TR and F Class lists. In TR, Mark Buchanan, Australia, and David Luckman, GBRT, both had 200.28. There were seven scores of 200 in all. In F Class, our intrepid pair from the BDMP Germany, Rainer Berghus and Wolfgang Scholze both had 235, along with Robert Bock.
Today was the Rest/Rescue Day in which no shooting was scheduled. There were no matches to make up so everyone had the day off, apart from me and the long suffering office staff and several others, for whom it was business as usual ... meetings, questions, and the soothing of ruffled feathers. There was rain on and off, so I was described as a genius for picking this day. However, tomorrows forecast and that for Saturday are not wonderful, so I expect to be burned at the stake before too long. May I go with a good glass of malt inside me!
The Grand Aggregate ends in the morning, and we have another great collection of team matches in the afternoon. If the latter are anything like yesterdays we are in for an exciting time!
*** Canadian Championships Day 9 - Fri 24 Aug 2007 Toby Raincock, GBRT, has won the Macdonald Stewart Grand Aggregate at the 125th DCRA Fullbore Rifle Championships, scoring 828.100. He beat Sherri Hurd 825.101, USA Young Eagles, by three points. With Keith Cunningham 825.80, Burnt River, Ont., in third place. Rounding out the top six were Bruce Scott 824.94, Australia, Johannes du Toit 824.88, South Africa, and Darren Enslin 824.84, Australia. In the F Class, Robert Bock, Brewster, NY, USA, won with 961, Marius de Champlain, Quebec, Que., was 2nd with 953, and Wolfgang Scholze, BDMP, Germany, 3rd with 951. Dave Rumbold, Ottawa, Ont, 944, Greg Warrien, Asutralia, 940, and Rainer Berghus, BDMP, Germany, 937 completed the top 6.
We had heavy thunderstorms last night, but the morning stayed dry with a fresh westerly breeze. Over lunch, there was another sharp shower, but now, as I write, the Long Range Team Matches are getting underway and it seems as if the gods will favour us this afternoon. The long range is a grand sight, full of teams with flags blowing out well. Ill have results for you later tonight or early tomorrow.
