Sat 21 Aug 2010
12:35 AM, Sunday. I must apologise to my faithful readers for the brevity of last night’s report and for the tardiness of this one day. A sort of end-of-the-meeting lethargy has crept in, quite apart from late night functions and other miscreant activities.
On Saturday, we had a very mixed bag of weather. Around 11:30 AM, i
made a note that the Canada Match was in progress; there was occasional light
drizzle; and one experienced a right wind, increasing
in strength as the morning went on.
The
Canada Match was a very exciting, close and quite high scoring affair. In the
end, Canada, captained by Des Vamplew, came out on
top with 1193.142, from Great Britain 1192.164 and the USA 1192.154.
The
F Class Final for both F(O) and F(F) was fired in the
early afternoon. The occasional drizzle persisted through the 800 metre range.
However, increasing gloom in the west, along with fairly dramatic wind changes
were the harbingers of bad weather. Rain, heavy at times, started about half-way
through the 900 metre range. The shoot was however concluded on schedule. We
offer our warm congratulations to Dawie Westhuizen and Jeffrey Rorer for winning the Governor
General’s badges in their respective classes

The Prize Giving started soon after 6:00 PM and all was satisfactorily completed before 7:30.
As I
mentioned yesterday, there are many aggregates and concurrent team matches are
now completed. The links below can provide detailed results.
Tomorrow
sees the end of the 128th DCRA Prize Meeting with the firing of the
America Match a fitting conclusion. There are three teams in the TR (Canada,
Great Britain and USA) and three in the F Class (Canada, USA and South Africa).
Judging by the close results in the Commonwealth and Canada Matches, Sunday’s
encounter could be most exciting. The forecast calls for showers, and we hope
to avoid most of them tomorrow. I shall try to provide commentary during the
day, and will add some general observations on the 128th Meeting.
